Kody’s favorite aspect of Trident’s residency program is the ability to offer residents a community experience coupled with a strong academic focus. He appreciates the program’s trauma experience and robust trauma volume at Trident. He loves Charleston’s beautiful architecture and rich history. In his free time, he enjoys photography, technology, and traveling. His interests include clinical ultrasound and critical care medicine.

Matthew Fiegel, MD

Medical School: Medical University of South Carolina
Having spent his entire life in Charleston, Matthew is no stranger to what the area has to offer, including the wonderful food and weather. In his free time, he enjoys being involved in fitness, learning new languages, building aquariums, and playing video games. Within emergency medicine, his interest mainly focuses on clinical ultrasound.

Medical School: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Auburn
Tripp was drawn to Trident by the diverse pathology in both pediatric and adult patient populations. He also loves the impressive teaching faculty. He is a newlywed and enjoys the Charleston area for its coastal location, rich history, and unique culture.

After visiting Trident and Charleston, Lelann knew that it was the type of residency culture that he was seeking for his training. He also felt it was the perfect place where his family would enjoy living for the next 3 years. His favorite thing by far is the amazing restaurant scene the area has to offer.

Tommy first became interested in Trident after hearing about the new and growing program located in the beautiful and historic city of Charleston. He looks forward to exploring his medical interests within emergency medicine including ultrasound, medical education, and wilderness medicine.

Luc Messenger, DO
Hometown: Bellaire, OH
Undergraduate: Ohio University
Medical School: Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
Luc grew up in a small town on the Ohio River before heading to college and double majoring in biology and Spanish. He stayed in Athens to finish his Masters in Global Health prior to medical school. He was initially drawn to Trident due to Charleston’s beautiful landscape and loved it even more after interacting with the program’s residents and faculty.

Samantha loves Charleston and getting to live relatively close to her home state of Florida. She also enjoys the amazing restaurants that the area offers. Her hobbies include beer and wine tasting, beachcombing, NYT crosswording, and spending time with her two dogs. Her interests within emergency medicine include PEM and EMS.

Summer loves that emergency medicine allows physicians to take care of patients in high stress situations. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, wake surfing, gardening, woodworking, and fishing. She is passionate about teaching and assisted in planning the intern bootcamp curriculum. Her favorite things about Charleston would have to be the small, historic town feel coupled with the amazing seafood, mainly oysters.

John chose Trident because it offers a bustling community emergency department with a large volume of acutely ill patients and valuable trauma experience. He is specifically interested in difficult airways and critical care.

John’s first interest in emergency medicine began while he was a firefighter. His professional interests within emergency medicine include EMS and prehospital care. During his free time, he enjoys anime, hiking, kayaking, and spending time outdoors with his amazing wife, Ashley. He loves the passion that Trident’s residents and faculty have for emergency medicine.
